My grandfather Albert Spearing served with the Worcester Reg't. starting in 1895 as a 12 year old. I am trying to find where he served during this time. He transferred in 1901 to the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. His service medals indicate India, Khartoum, Ireland and China. Is there any way I can get a full listing of his service. I have his discharge and enlistment papers from the National Archives. Thanks for any help.

Have you got a service number on the medals, and which medals (and clasps) are they. It will be possible to gain some idea of his service from that.

Kind regards,
Lars

I have a service no. of 20811 but I think that is for the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in which he served from 1901 - 1902. On his Attestation papers he indicates he was serving in the 6th Batt. Wocestershire Regt. since 1895. I believe he was a trumpeter. I have the following information on his medals:
1895 - Tireel (?) not sure of spelling
1887-89 Punjab India
9th Batt. 2nd Div.
2311 Khartoum
32nd Batt.
Belfast Ireland
Kings
Relief for Ladysmith
Tizeen Heights
Dixons Relief
Poliackburg
Relief of Kimberly
China 1900
Relief of Peking
1901-1902 South African Prisoner
I would be most grateful for any help.

I have a friend who collects to the RWF, if you have the papers digitally we can try to help out a bit more.

He transferred to the RWF in 1901 so I would guess that most of his service was with the WR. Would the archives at Norton Barracks help any? Also, his papers indicate that he attended Duke of York's Royal
ilitary School, Royal Hibernian Military School and Industrial School under Home Office. Does that help in any way? I do appreciate your answers.

Hi again,
I'm not sure what information the Archives in Norton Barracks can give. It would be best if it was possible to see a scan of the service papers, to say a bit more of where he served.

Kind regards,
Lars
