Worcestershire Regiment

Hi there, I am doing the old family history and have found that my Great Great Grandfather was in Ireland (Limerick) in 1890. He is listed on his daughters birth certificate as being a Lance Corporal in the Worcestershire Regiment. I presume he must have married the mother who was an Irish woman. I can't find out anything else about him so if there are any details I would love to hear them.

James (Harvey) Rivers was his name.

Hi Lauren,

I found a birth of a James Harvey Rivers born in 1868 at Pershore, Worcestershire.

I also found a Medal Index card for a James H. Rivers (army number 12188) who served with the Worcestershire Regiment in World War 1 in the Balkans. He entered the theatre of war on the 10th May 1915. He ended up with the rank of Sergeant.

Hi, thanks for the reply. What does "He entered the theatre of war " mean? I have a record that he is a lance corporal in 1890. and in 1901 he is working as a police constable. More confused than ever now haha!

Hi Lauren,

"He entered the theatre of war " means the date when he first landed overseas on active service during war.

Your Great Great Grandfather if he was born in 1868 would make him 46 years of age at the start of the First World War and so it may be unlikely that he served in the war due to his age.

The details of the medal card I gave you may not be your Great Great Grandfather. It just that was the only one I could find with that may match!!

Was his wife called Maragret ?

I thought he would be a little old. His wife was Margaret, an Irish lady.
