Hi, I'm new to the forums.

I have been trying to find information on my Dad's war history, his name was Frederick Edwards, i know he started in the Worc's 2nd Battalion before transfering to the 151 Parachute Battalion in about 1941, and i know that in 1939 he was in India with the Worc's 2nd btn, there's a photo on the website of the 2nd Battalion submitted by a Graham Pryor who is the grandson of a Frank Betteridge, i would like to hear from Graham Pryor if he uses the forums as one of the soldiers in the photo looks like it might be my Dad, but would like it confirmed.

Cheers for any information

Hi Malcolm,

If you would like a larger higher resolution copy of the photo of the 2nd Battalion (B Company) in Sailkot, indian (1939) I can email you a copy in which you could zoom in to the faces to check if your father is in the photo.

Let me know if you would like me to email you a copy. The file size is 1.4 MegaBytes - which should be no problem if you have a broadband internet connection.

Regards,

Thanks for the photo, it's much better, it's still hard to say as i don't have any photo's of him untill he was in his 50s, but does look a bit like him, i'm looking at the one who's in the front row fourth from the left, i know he was a lance corporal at that time, i take it the one in the photo is wearing the lance corporal stripe? are there any names with the photo?

The only names I have had confirmed so far are two - Private Frank Betteridge (5249993) is on the back row, second from right, directly underneath the lamp and the officer centre front row is Lieut. John Graham.

Graham Pryor sent me the photo in 2005 and the only name he gave me was Frank Betteridge as far as I am aware he had no other names.

You could try contacting Regimental Archives (you will find their contact details on the home page of this website) if they also have a copy of the photo they may have names but not sure - worth a try. The charged a fixed search charge fee of £15.

Just another thing i've noticed in the photo you sent me Scully, my dad had good conduct badges in 1935 and 1938, i beleive that these were worn towards the bottom of their sleeves, do you think the person in the photo (bottom row fourth from the left) has them on his left arm?

Lots of thing add up now then, he has very similar feautures, he was a lance corporal, he was in India with the 2nd btn at that time and had the good conduct badges, plus Frank Betteridge army number was 5249993, my Dad's was 5249950, which is very close, so it could be my Dad.

If it is, his name was Frederick Edwards, army number 5249950.
