Hello, My name is Nick & I have decided belatedly to research my grandfathers military history in more detail. Should have spoken more about it to the old boy when he alive but like a lot of that generation he wasn't very forthcoming. He was born in Worcestershire but lived in Warwickshire & hence one of the first myths grew about why he joined the Worcesters & not the Warwicks; the story was that in 1916 he went to the next closest recruiting station because his local seargant knew that at 17 he was too young to enlist. He was a big strapping lad & the story is that he joined up after a girl gave him a white feather while on holiday in Blackpool that summer. We'll never know the truth of course.
I have his medals so know his service number - a good start.
Ancestry.co.uk provided me with his medal issue record, which doesn't get me much further as I have them (mounted) & the original box they came in & citation.
I contacted Dave at the regiment museum & he will help me with whatever information he has, however if that is not enough to help identify where he served is there another source of information I can persue? I have been a student of WW1 history for most of my life & will probably be able to track down what action in which he was involved in France from 1917 if I know the battalion &/or the company number. Any help would be appreciated - thanks!
