Irish connections

Does anyone have details on Joseph Jeanes Durbin, born 1778ish, probably around Bristol, apparently a half-pay Captain in the 36th. around 1800 in Ireland, referred to elsewhere, later, as a Major ?

Hi kenb,
The History of the 36th Foot ,with detailed information on their movments to and from Ireland in the early 19th Cent., can be found on the same site as this Forum (Main section ).
Joseph Jeanes Durbin born Bristol 1774 a younger son of Sir John Durbin a Bristol merchant ,one time Sherrif and Mayor of Bristol. Final home ,Clevedon Court Somerset .
Sir Johns portrait is on display at the Natinal Portrait Gallery.
CAPTAIN J J DURBIN joined the 36th Foot from the MONMOUTH AND BRECON MILITIA to be CAPT.with temp.rank in the Army (L.GAZETTE DEC.1799)
His length of service with the 36th is unknown but by by April 1826 he is a half pay CAPTAIN .The rank he displays seems to vary between CAPTAIN and MAJOR(MILITIA?)
On the1841 Census he living at CLIFTON HOUSE , CLIFTON BRISTOL,with his family.
He died 18/4/1848 at RODNEY-VILLA CHELTENHAM and is buried in the local Church aged 74. In TIMES DEATH NOTICE he is is described as Esq. Army rank not mentioned.
