1st Battalion in East Indies 1894-96

Postby colin » Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:32 pm

Can anyone enlighten me about the activities of the 1st Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment, in the 'East Indies' between 16-02-1894 and 07-02-1896 ? I have looked at the potted history of the regiment on the web site, but the East Indies doesn't seem to be mentioned for this period. The location and dates come from the Service Record of my wife's grandfather: 3503 - Private William Joseph MORRIS. His later service was in Malta, then Bermuda, then 'home'. Many thanks for any help provided. Colin.

Hi Colin,
The Army, in the Victorian era, used the geographical term EAST INDIES to cover a wide range of countries.
These included INDIA, CEYLON, BURMA etc. The 1st Batt. served in this region during the last decade of the 19th Century.
