Thomas & James Cartwright

Postby mikehall2709 » Thu Aug 16, 2012 10:18 am

I am trying to find more details (service record/last address etc) of my two great uncles who both served in the 3rd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment and were both killed in the first world war.

Thomas (army number 13169) was killed on 15/10/1914 at Windy corner, Cuinchy, France
James (army number 11687) was killed on 12/11/1915 at Prowse Point, Comines-Wareneton, Belgium

I found there graves on the CWGC website and have been able to visit both.

I know where their parents lived, but cannot find where they lived in the 1911 census or if they were married or not

Any information would be much appreciated

Many Thanks

Hi Mike,

The information I have:

Private Thomas Cartwright (13169) embarked to France on the 12th August 1914 with the 3rd Battalion.

Private James Cartwright (11687) embarked to France on the 5th November 1914 with the 1st Battalion. It seems he was later transferred to the 3rd Battalion.

Hi Louis

Thank you very much for this information. You don't know where they lived/were based in England prior to departure, do you?

If not, thank you so much for taking the time to check this out for me

Kind Regards

Sorry, it's the first time I have received this site.

Is it Louis or Scully that has replied. Apologies if I used the wrong name

Thanks Corona, very much appreciated.

Do you know if there is any information available about when they arrived in France and what battles they were involved with?
