My hobby is family history and I am interested in finding out the Army history of a distant relative Sgt John "Jack" Jones. In July 1947 his address was L.E.P.T.C Johore Bahru, Malaya so was he part of the 7th Bn at this time?
I am told by family members that he "disappeared" in 1947.

I can only find one entry on Google for his service number which relates to a different person so either regimental numbers are recycled (unlikely) or he was using someone else's number
From letters that I have seen he had been using the same number since at least 1945..

From Google:
Jones - Pte E.R. - Worcestershire Regt.
Grave at Rawalpindi - "No. 5249769 Private E.R. Jones. HQ Company, Worcestershire Regiment. Died 20 March 1939. Aged 25 yrs."

:?:

Any help gratefully received

In light of new information I now believe that the soldier masquerading as Jones was actually a Sgt John Jewkes - service number unknown. All rather mysterious..
