1. Captioned officer does not appear on this website listing of officers of the 29th of Foot. His service is proven by: DOUGLASS KATHARINE 24/09/1774 RELICT OF LIEUTENANT JAMES DOUGLASS OF THE 29TH REGIMENT OF FOOT TD Testament Dative EDINBURGH COMMISSARY COURT CC8/8/123. Testament states she died March 26, 1773 and that she was the widow of Lieutenant James Douglass of the 29th of Foot given by daughter Christian Douglass Inventory of her estate included the sum of five pounds Sterling as a quarters pension due to her as an officer’s widow.

2.There is reported to be a petition of two maiden ladies, Jean and Christian Douglas, dated 8 Feb, 1779, Edinburgh, Scotland. Reportedly, in their petition: Col. John Douglas, “of the army,” (who had a brother Major William Douglas "of the army") is mentioned as father of their father Lt. James(s), of Albemarle’s Regiment who died young at Gibraltar; James is also reported to be the father of Lt. Col.Robert Douglas of the Royal Chatham Marines (father of Lt. Gen. Robert Douglas, R.A.) and Captain John Douglas. Inference he died 1731-1733.

3. Poster has verified existence and relationship of Lt. Col. Robert Douglas and Lt. Gen. Robert Douglas, R.A. but has been unable to connect Lt. Col. Robert Douglas of the Marines to Lt. James Douglas of the 29th. Any further information concerning Lt. James Douglas would be greatly appreciated.
