Anything on Pte John SNADE, 8105, 2nd Battalion
Went to France on 12 August, 1914 with 2nd Battalion? Though not on cathedral Roll for 2nd.
Reported wounded September, 1915 with 4th Battalion in Mediterranean.
Can't find any reports which might suggest a date for transfer.

I am missing some information. on C.Sjt/CQMS Thomas Victor CHURCHES, 9343/5239106 2nd Battalion.
I know he's on your Gheluvelt list but I am trying to track down award date etc for his MSM. (G VI) and his 1911 Census. The information that came with his medals suggested he might have been with the 4th at time of outbreak of WW1 and posted to 2nd on his return. I have copies of both census' and can't find him on either.
Anything please?
I have compiled a comprehensive set of data on him if it's of any use to you.

I only have wounded report for Sept. 1915 (4th Bn.) for Pte, 8105 John Snade but he must have been wounded / sick before this date (and sent to England) for him to transfer from 2nd Bn.

Regards Thomas Churches I have not found a 1911 census for him. DCM and LSGCM awards ok but have nothing for MSM (not recorded in Stacke for this award). Searched LG and nothing. His service papers are available from MoD (search his name and re-enlistment number 5239106 on forces war records for details). He was 2nd Bn. going to France 20.09.14 and so on my data listing for 14 Star 2nd Bn. men. Will take another look into him.

Reckon better than 50/50 for Pte Snade.
The MSM has a G(VI) head, so much later. I have had this problem before in trying to trace the Gazette date for a MSM. So I will keep looking. I have assumed a demob date of 1930's but I don't have a complete run of Firm's but not in the one's I've looked at. Do you have a date?

Hi David,

Yes I've had problems with searching the LG in the past.
His older brothers also served with the colours. Friendly Ambrose Churches enlisted in Worcestershire Regt. 14.03.1905 (Thomas enlisted 15.07.1905) Short service. Pte. 9113 1st Bn. but was discharged 20.11.1905 having been found medically unfit for for further service. Looks like enlisted again RE (Spr. WR/201090 & WR/16898) during the war. Henry William Churches died 19.10.1917 Gloucestershire Regt. Pte. 242242.
Looking at census records for the Churches it seemed they moved around a fair bit and the reason being that their father Thomas also served with the colours (see 1881 census) Col. Sgt. 69th .
Friendly Ambrose papers on Ancestry (Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioner Records). Also for Thomas (father).

Just been informed that a catch up of MSM's were issued in the 1950's, none gazetted and many issued after soldiers had left the Army.
I'll follow this up with a trawl through the Firm's, I have them all for the 1950's. Fingers crossed.

Thomas must have been stationed in Germany in 1926, his daughter Lilian is buried in Südfriedhof Cemetery, Wiesbaden, Stadtkreis Wiesbaden, Hessen, Germany, He held the rank C.Q.M.Sgt.
Lillian b. 18.05.1924 d. 14.02.1926.

Hi Peter, it's been a while.
I have just bought a QSA & KSA to 5376 Pte F Bailey. 2nd Btn. Worcs. I have found that he served in WW1 and went to France 11/08/1914. Wounded at some point, I don't know when, he was renumbered 49531 and returned to depot. Awarded LSGC 1917. Any chance he was a charger?

I have him down as a don't know for Gheluvelt. Not a lot of information regards his service and have not found any reports (newspaper etc.) regards being wounded. If it's any help born 7.9.1882, married (2nd marriage) 21.10.1911 (still serving at the time, Carisbrooke, Isle of wight) Clara Ellen Smith and died 12.7.1952 aged 69/70.
