Remembered today 28th April.

12631 Lanc Sergt George William Hill. 3rd Battalion

George enlisted with the Worcestershire Regiment around the 26th August 1911 and joined the 4th Battalion. He was with the 4th at the Gallipoli landings as a Lanc Cpl. He received a Mention in Orders from Lieu-Colonel D. F. Cayley for his “Good and Gallant Service” on the 29th April 1915.
He was wounded on the 11th May 1915 at the 2nd battle of Kirithia and returned to England to the 2nd Western General Hospital Manchester. Upon recovery from his wounds he was posted to Plymouth as an Instructor. From there he joined the 3rd Battalion as a Lance Sergeant.
George was killed on the 28th April 1916 when the Germans exploded a mine under Central Trench at Vimy Ridge.

He is remembered with Honour at the Arras Memorial.
