Hello,
I wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction. My Grandfather began the war in the Warwickshire Regiment but shortly after was 'requested' by his elder brother, who was serving in the Royal Worcesters. I have been told that this was a common practice when brothers were in different regiments! My grandfather was a 'Sapper' and I have his medal card but it contains 2 numbers I am not sure how to decipher the information on the card. Will it state which battalions he was in? Can anyone help?

The medal index card itself will probably not give you details on batallions served in, but the rolls annotated on the card would. That would require a separate look up most of the time. If you post his service number(s) I'll have check on the MIC.

Allan, the William Russell ,whose trio I have, is 7852. grateful for any information, if you prefer to use an email its 7lars.ahlkvist@moderat.se just omit the 7 before the rest when sending.

Gill,
I found William Yardley on Ancestry, He went to France on 27.8.1915, and was demobbed into class Z army reserve. His service number was 17924 in the Worcesters.

The numbers beside the medals mentioned is the reference for the medal roll which would give units served with.

Dear Lars,
sorry about delay in replying, been off-line for ages. Thank you so much for information on William Yardley. I have since recieved copies of all his war records from company that researches at national archives and it was money well spent! Doing lots of research into Worcestershire Regiment now, absolutely fascinating.
Thanks again for help,
Best Wishes
