my mum told me that my grandad fought at hill 60, never heard of this before. Researching I found that the Worc Reg did not fight at hill 60 in Flanders, but I think they did at hill 60 in Gallipoli.
Does anyone know anything?
Joy.

Hi Joy,

Below are 3 options for you to consider.

The 9th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment fought in Gallipoli and were involved in Battle of Sari Bair in August 1915. The 9th Battalion made an attack on Kabak Kuyu on the 12th August 1915. Kabak Kuyu was at the foot of Hill 60. If you check out the (9th BATTALION section of this website under the BATTALIONS dropdown list you will see details and a map showing Hill 60).

On the 17th April 1915 the 3rd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment were in trenches at St. Eloi south-east of Hill 60 when it was mined and stormed.

On the 27th September 1917 the 10th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment marched up across the Ypres-Comines Canal and took up at reserve position at Hill 60.

What was your grandfathers name and number? Do you know which battalion he served with?

Regards,

Louis

thanks again for all your work for me Louis.
You answered another query of mine about Richard Cornelius Pearson 2341, my paternal grandfather, it was him that my mum thought fought at hill 60, but he was with the 7th Bn. I think she's mixed up with her grandfather, my g-grandfather Pte. David Batham 20120 3rd Bn. Worc, although I'm sure I saw on another website that the 7th fought at hill 60 in Gallipoli.

Thanks Allan
how do you get to see the entry? I live in Middlesex, is it available online?
Strange it should say wounded as the war diary only says killed. My brother has always said he was wounded & moved to a hospital.
