Hi All,

The above is my great grandfather, I am trying to trace his military history, but can find nothing on ancestary.com or the national archives except a medal index card, can anyone advise me where to go from here for more information ?

Hi Sarah,

Pte Frederick Chandler (6521) landed in France with the 2nd battalion Worcestershire Regiment on the 12-9-1914. It is very likely he was one of the men who fought at the famour Battle of Gheluvelt (details on this website under the HISTORY dropdown list).

Pte Frederick Chandler was discharged from the army on the 31-3-1916 due to wounds or illness and he was awarded the Silver War Badge. You will find some information about the Silver War Badge on this website (look on the Home Page and then click on the link).

The Regimental Archives at Worcester hold full details of what is recorded on the Silver War Badge list and it may be useful to contact them to get a copy of the information they hold. Their contact address is:
RHQ Mercian (Worcester), Norton Barracks, Worcester, WR5 2PA.
If you contact them for information it helps if you give them a small donation to help towards their work in maintaining the Archives which is done by volunteers.

Regards,

Louis

Hi Sarah

I have found 2 references in the Worcester Herald.

Reported 15 June 1915
City of London Military Hospital Clapton 18 May 1915
6521 Pte F. Chandler - Wounded Severe

Reported 19 June 1915

Thank you, is that all it states ? I am in correspondance with someone to try and find out his silver badge details, as we aim to donate his military medals to the museum.

Hi Sarah

Unfortunatly this is all that is there. He was part or 190 men from the 2nd Battalion that were reported as wounded and in hospital on that day.
