Hi, fresh from researching a family WW2 Lancaster rear gunner, I'm now looking into our great uncle Raymond J Denley 30813. I have his British and Victory medals but nothing else as yet. Any easily obtained information will be gratefully received to help me start. Thanks very much.

Hi,

Private Raymond James Denley (30813) enlisted on the 10th December 1915 joining the Worcestershire Regiment. He was 28 year 2 months old when he enlisted. He may have been with the ASC (Army Service Corps) previously (i.e. before the war)!

He was posted to the 5th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment on the 31st May 1916 and was based with them in the UK until the 15th October 1916.

On the 15th October 1916 he was posted to the 9th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment (served with them in Mesopotamia).

Discharged to Class Z Reserve on the 21st May 1918.

His address at the time he enlisted was Brock Hill, Suckley, Near Worcester. He married Louisa Mary Nutt on the 2nd July 1913.

Hope the above is of some help.

Regards,

Louis
