19058 Pte J. Cartwright

Postby worlog » Sun May 17, 2009 11:21 pm

Hi all, I am here looking for some help. My great grandfather 19058 Pte. Joseph Cartwright was KIA on July 3rd 1916 at La Boisselle while serving with the 10th battalion. I was hoping that someone here might be able to point me in the direction of a photograph of him or which local papers to search to see if anything was published at the time of his death. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have found a reference in the Worcester Herald 9th September 1916 edition of a:-

19058 Pte W. Cartwright of Tipton - Missing

You could try a local newspaper in the Tipton area to see if there is anything there. The family's sometimes reported a death and if you are very very lucky, a photograph. One of the members of this forum is doing a lot of work on the Tipton lads, so you may get more information.

Would also be helpful if you gave us your name

You probably know that Private Tom Turrall 10th Worcesters won the VC in the attack on La Boisselle on the 2nd July 1916........ theres a big excavation of an area called The Glory cavity going on at the moment and into next year, its on the outskirts of the village. If you,re thinking of visiting they will be having open days, sorry this doesn't help with your post but just threw it in for interest.

Allan,

The Thomas Dunn was 20575 Lanc. Cpl. T. Dunn – Dudley. You will find a photo of him in the Roll of Honour section. Just click on his name (hyperlink). I added it today after it was submitted by his great nephew who posted the question.

Do you have any further details to add?

Regards,

Louis
