Which battalion?

Postby robinsmith » Thu Jun 18, 2009 1:28 pm

My grandfather, Hugh Smith b. 1878, Kidderminster, served with the Worcestershire Regt. during the first world war. His service number was 33499 - rank , private. Is there any way of finding which battalion he served in? He was in France and I have his war medal & victory medal. His records are not among the "burned" records at Kew, so presumably they were burned!

His medal index card, which is on Ancestry, says he served in the 4th battalion. On the card is a medal roll reference number that might be used to look him up at kew, any other battalions served with should be given there.

His MIC states that he enlisted in 05 08 16 and served until 19 05 17, when he was discharged for sickness and awarded a Silver War Badge.

ATB,
Lars
