Hi I am looking for any information on my greatgrandfather Henry Caddick who died in 1918 in the 1st world war, what i am looking for is what he did, where he was injured and how he got back home and where he was before he died - basically any information would help me in getting to know him better.

He died in Oct 1918 2 months before his only son was born.

Many Thanks

Zoe Caddick

Good evening Zoe.

If you go to the Commonwealth War Graves Website and enter his name, it gives you a little bit of information.
Such as he was in the 15th Bttn and is buried at BRISTOL (ARNOS VALE) CEMETERY.

39059 Pte Henry John Caddick, 15h Bttn Worc Reg.

If you look up the section on this site, under battalions, then 15th, it will give you some information on his battalion.

I hope this helps in getting you started with your research.

Cheers
John

As he did not serve abroad, there is no medal record (his next of kin would have been issued a death plaque), service or pension record (I've checked Ancestry).

He might have died from sickness (Influenza?) or an accident. not sure if a death certificate would give more information? Perhaps someone could advice? A lot of men were needed for home duties, and thus were vital to the war effort.

Kind regards,
Lars
