My grandmother's first husband was James George Benjamin Newton he was a private in the 5th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment and his number was 67603. He was born in Portsmouth about 1891 and died on the 6th November 1918 in a military hopspital(My grandmother kept a document stating a military hospital but, I'm unable to read it).
Is there anyone who could tell me anymore information regarding his service record, where he was posted during the war and if he was injured whilst fighting and which military hospital he was at.
I would be very grateful for any help or be pointed in the right direction to get help.
Regards

You can find him on the Commonwealth war graves commission site as J Newton, C Company 5th WOrcesters.

He has no medal index card on the National Archives, so I would think he never served abroad. At this time in 1918, the influenza took many victims. Other sicknesses or accidents also took their toll.

Kind regards,
Lars

Thank you for your prompt response.
If the service record exists would that explain any health issues and where he died?

It might show you these details, if it exists. Most of the time it does not exist. He is buried in Portsmouth (Kingston) Cemetery.
