G'day I am new to this site. I suspect three people in my family tree are soldiers recorded who were in the Regiment during WW1. They were Albert Edward Denning 10451, John Denning 31724, and William Denning 10946. Can anyone direct me to where I might find out more about these men that might confirm they are my relatives. Many thanks.

G'day Allan Thanks very much for that, I really appreciate it. As I am in Australia it is a bit hard sourcing material and don't have the local knowledge. I believe one if not two of the fellows went to India later as I have a photograph of one taken in Cawnpore. Many thanks again and the compliments of the season to you.
Cheers Bill

Hi Bill

I sure that the forum would be interested in the photograph that you have. If you look at the home page there is a place that you can send a copy for inclusion on the site.

Best wishes & a Happy New Year.

Hi Bill,

I have Pte. 10946 William John Denning on my database for 2nd Battalion Worcesters that went to France-Belgium in 1914. William sailed to France on 13th-14th August 1914 on either the 'Lake Michigan or 'Herschel' depending on which Company he served in ('A' & 'B' on Michigan and 'C' & 'D' on Herschel). Information from Allan shows that he was wounded (at least twice) and was awarded a Silver War Badge.

In the January 1965 edition of the Regimental magazine 'Firm' is a group phototgraph (Gheluvelt survivors at the Star Hotel, Worcester) and W.J. Denning is on it. It gives an address of 12 Gheluvelt Park, Worcester for him (it also states he was awarded the M.M. although I have found no details for this award to him, maybe the award was won with another Regiment?). He was at the famous charge by the 2nd Battalon Worcesters at Gheluvelt on 31st October 1914. I believe he passed away in Worcester in June 1968 aged 78.

I'm sure for a small fee if you contact the Regimental Museum (details can be found on this site) they would send you a copy of the article and photograph from the magazine.

Pte. 10451 Albert Edward Denning served with the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment and went to France 5th November 1914, could find no details for 31724 John Denning.

Regards

Peter

Hi Bill, My dad died last july 2010 aged 91. His name was-Albert Edward Denning-obv not the gent you are looking for, but i am intrigued to find out if you are related to my family. My dad, nicknamed bob and was called by the name bob all his life, told me he had an uncle called henry who lived and poss died in malvern, worcestershire. Another relation of his, poss.henry, moved to tasmania in 1930's/1940's and set up a fruit canning factory. This is an interest to me, also. My dad came from Weybridge, Surrey, before he came up north to West Kirby, Wirral,Merseyside,as a sergeant in the r.a.f. in 1940. Graham Denning.
