I am tryin to trace what happened to my grandfather, private Herbert C Smith, no 29623

I have his service record but it doesn't say anything about where he was sent

I believe he was wounded in Belgium, and may have been sent to Italy (he picked up some Italian from somewhere)
My father says that he served under a Gerneral Mcleary/Mcleady in Ireland, he may have been looking after horses there

any help would be much appreciated.
regards
Adrian Smith

Hi Adrian

I have found this entry in the 9th June 1917 edition of the Worcester Herald. The slight difference in number may just be a typo.

Wounded
29423 Pte H. C. Smith – Worcester

Hi Lars

I have recheck but there is no Battalion mentioned. The papers stopped printing battalions in early 1916 as the Germans were getting vital information on troop movements from the casualy lists.
