I am trying to research my grandfathers medal entitlement from WW1.
I have managed to recently find this information relating to him.
William Butterworth
Brierly Street Oldham Lancashire.
Employed as Engineer,Harland and Wolf, Southampton.
Pte 67444 Worcestershire Regiment.
Volunteered/Attested 8.12.1915
To AR 9.12.1915
Mobilized 9.7.1918
Posted 5th Worc's 10.7.1918
Posted 5th Worc's 12.9.1918
IBO 29.11.1918
3rd Worc's 29.11.1918
2nd Worc's 8.2.1919
17th Worc's 15.4.1919
Demobilized 7.11.1919
Apparently he had been examined by a Army Doctor 23.9.1919 in Hanflener, and had also received dental treatment in Harve and Harwich.
Am unable to find his medal card.
Can anyone explain the above information as to his postings and where he was sent.
Any help and information would be appreciated

Hi John,
Although he was attested on the 8.12.1915 he was held in the Army Reserves (AR) and was only finally mobilzed for action on the 9.7.1918 being posted to the 5th (Reserve) Battalion in the U.K. He was only posted to the 3rd Battalion on the 29.11.1918 by which time the war had ended. In February 1919 the 3rd Battalion was demobilized and the men were transferred to the 2nd Battalion at Havre, France. Although he was overseas, the war had ended and he saw no action. This is likely why you can not find a medal index card as he would not have been entitled to any medals.
17th Battalion arrived at Havre and settled in beside the 2nd Battalion. Early in April 1919 came definite orders as to future procedure.
The 2nd Battalion was to go home as a cadre to reform. All surplus personnel was to be transferred to the 17th Battalion, which would take over the garrison duty at Havre. Hence the reason why he then joined the 17th Battalion.
