W H Hancox - DCM?

Postby John(txic) » Fri Jun 24, 2011 12:01 pm

I am researching Dudley's War Memorial: one of the names carved on the wall is W H Hancox, DCM.

From the Roll of Honour compiled by Dudley Council, he is identified as 1964 Wm. Hy. Hancox, 1st/7th Worcesters. However, on neither CWGC nor SDGW is this gallantry award mentioned.

Did 1964 W H Hancox win the DCM?

Please assist if you can.

He's not listed in Walkers Receipients Of The DCM 1914-1920. Of course he nay have been awarded it prior to WWI, did he have pre-war service?

Hi John

I have found a reference to his death in the Worcester Herald in the 13th January 1917 edition but nothing about his D.C.M.

Killed
1964 Pte W. Hancox – Old Hill
