Can any colleague with experience of Death certificates help me with this soldier? He was born c.1888 at Stottesdon, died with the Regt at the depot on the 27/10/1918; he's buried in Kinlet churchyard.

I can't find a death certificate for him on findyourpast - can anyone help?

Cheers

Simon

Hi Simon
Was his death a civilian registration for some reason?
Try THOMAS W TROW CARDIFF OCT-NOV -DEC 1918
VOL.11a Page 569

Thanks for the tip corona - unfortunately I think this is Thomas William Trow despite similar dob. Would he have a Kings Norton / Worcester registration if he died at the depot?

Simon
Although serving at the Depot, your man may have died elsewhere. If taken ill or injured in an accident, he may have been transferred to a hospital, by the Army. His death could then have been recorded in that locality, by the authorities and not at a register office, in or around Worcestershire.

Simon,
Contact Annette Burgoyne on The Great War Forum.
She lists your man as a descendant of her Gt.Gt.Grandfather
and may have the information you are looking for.

Thanks Corona - I'm in touch with Annette already, and she's a good source of information! His medal card says entry to France 22 9 15 so I suspect he is 11th Bn like his brother Edwin Albert who was kia Salonika in Dec 1917. Thanks for your advice!

Thanks Allan - both useful! Thomas must be d o w but there doesn't seem to be a death cert listed for him. Puzzling. EA Trow was indeed killed by a 'dud' on the 19th Dec '17, so that would be him.

Appreciated!

Simon

Thanks Allan - he's mentioned in Stacke (not by name) in the last paragraph on Macedonia

The Balkan winter had now set in, with mist and heavy rain. Both sides settled down into winter quarters, and the ensuing weeks, so far as the 11th Worcestershire were concerned, were marked by no outstanding incident…save that on December 19th 1917, an accidental explosion of a “dud” enemy shell in a dugout caused serious loss. 1 killed, 1 died of wounds, 8 wounded...
