Hi TMN,
Pte. Naylor was definitely in some form of the Army before 1914. You need to find out what Pte. Naylor is recorded as in the 1911 Census. If he is down as regular soldier then he joined on or very close to 18.11.1903 and was still serving. If down as anything else he could have signed on around the 2.8.1908 as a Special Reserve Soldier. I am almost certain though he did sign on in 1903. He had finished his Regular period of service but was on the Reserve. His Reserve period would not have ended until Nov 1915. He was then mobilized with around 1,000 other Worcestershire Regiment Soldiers.
Thank you for your interest in my research. It is not going to be a book. I hope to present my results to Worcester Cathedral as an addendum to the Rolls. They need correcting and updating. There are some men who should not be on there. There are about 12 men who have managed to get their names on both Rolls. But to me the biggest problem is the 150 men who should be on the Rolls but are not. For example Pte. Walter Akast 9427, Went to France 12th August 1914 (With the main party) was killed in Action 14th Sept 1914. He is NOT on either of the Cathedral Rolls. The poor blighter has no known grave and did not even get a 1914 Star !

Just for your records 9427 PTE.WALTER AKAST has a large number of service papers on Ancestry.
He enlisted into the Worcesters 5/9/1905 and died of wounds 14/9/1914.His papers record the award of the 1914 STAR. plus the WAR and VICTORY MEDALS.

Hello Corona,
Thanks for your input, always valued and appreciated. There is no doubt that Walter Akast was entitled to the 1914 Star (Mons Star). He died during the qualifyung period but he was NEVER awarded it. Check his Medal Index Card. I have data-based all the Stars awarded to 2nd Bn. men and numbered each one individually so there are NONE missing. There was 1564 awarded to the 2nd Bn. and Walter Akast is not among them. I went to Kew and fotod all the sheets individually. Even the 3rd Bn..

Hi Mike,

Apologies for the delay in replying, but thankyou for that extra information and pointer, certainly gives us even more food for thought!
We will check out the 1911 census and see if any information can be found from that.

Many thanks again to everyone who has taken the time and trouble to help us out with our research,
hope you all had a Happy Christmas!
TMN
