CSM John William Smith, 7139

Postby Tiatia67 » Tue Jan 24, 2012 3:41 pm

I am looking for information on my Uncle, CSM John William Smith. 7139. I have had some response on the battle but I need more information on his service during his time in the Worcestershire. As far as I can gather he was a carer solider, I think Jack Smith was a regular who had served in Egypt before WW1. My Great Aunt went to Egypt with him so I am assuming that they were in married quarters. According to the records we have Jack was in Aldershot on 4th August 1914 and landed Boulogne 14th August 1914. I do not know however when he originally joined up in Birmingham. I would also be interested in knowing if being in the army was a family affair and he had followed in the footsteps of his father or grandfather. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi,
I do not usually put any effort in to research when I do not know who I am talking to but your case is slightly different. Selfishly I am researching all the men who went to France in August 1914. I have lots of official records and John Smith 7139 does not appear to have gone to France until at the earliest, Jan 1916. If you have evidence that he was there before this date, I will make sure he is updated and included in any future addendums.
