13389 George Henry Heather served 2nd Bn. Worcesters during WW1. Searched Ancestry for service papers but seems that they must have been amongst those destroyed during the bombing of 1940. He did serve with the Royal Fusiliers (7075) pre WW1 (1911 census records him at Corunna Barracks, Stanhope Lines, Aldershot, 4/Royal Fusiliers). Do any other records survive for him? (Find my Past maybe). Shoemaker by trade born Hampstead, London June Q. 1881.

Hi Peter,
I believe this is your man:-
5566 PTE. GEORGE HENRY HEATHER 7TH BATT. RIFLE BRIGADE(MILITIA)
BORN HAMPSTEAD, LONDON, MIDDLESEX .AGE 17 YRS. 8 MTHS.
RESIDES 59, CAMPDEN BUILDINGS,HOLLY VALE ,HAMPSTEAD.
TRADE BOOT REPAIRER WITH MR JAMES, 33, MILL, LANE, WEST HAMPSTEAD.
SINGLE N OF K MOTHER SERVED FROM 1/11/1897 TO 9/2/1898.
TO THE SUFFOLK REGT. 10/2/1898.
Only the 1st BATT. SUFFOLKS I think, served in the Boer War and Pte.Heather is not on the medal roll.
The 1911Census shows him (if it is your man as I believe) with the 4th/ROYAL FUSILIERS a one time Militia /Territorial Unit
It could be he was serving out his army reserve commitment and was called back in 1914 and some how found himself with the Worcesters.!

Regards,
corona.

Hi Corona,

Many thanks for the additional information much appreciated. The date he joined the Suffolk Regiment (10.2.1898) ties in with information I have on him so I'm sure he's the right man.
