Please can anyone help with any information on my Great Grandad Pte Samuel Arthur Bold who fought in WW1, he was killed in April 1914. He was in 3rd Battalion. His soldier number was 203355. I have so far only managed to find out where and when he was killed. Any help will be greatfully received.

Hi,
No service papers appear to have survived for Samuel Bold.I believe large numbers were lost through enemy action in WW11.
Samuel had two army numbers 20302 and 203355 and was awarded the BritishWar and Victory medals.
In addition his family would have received a Next of Kin Plaque.
You might also try the local Ilminster newspaper for information.
Regards,
corona.

Hi,
Nothing new on Samuel apart from the 1911Cesus entry. Living with wife Annie at Ditton St. Ilminster and a Groom Domestic by trade.
His brother ALBERT EDWARD BOLD served in WW1 as M2/136473 Army Service Corps. MIC but no service/pension papers have survived.
If you are interested in Albert I can provide you with some additional information.

Hi,

If you could send some information on Albert Edward Bold it would be much appreciated.

Do you know of any reason why a Groom from Ilminster, Somerset would be in the Worcestershire regiment and why he wasn't in the Somerset Light Infantry?

Many thanks

Hi.
ALBERT EDWARD BOLD ( FROM THE SURREY RECRUITMENT REGISTERS 1908- 1933)
M2/136473 ARMY SERVICE CORPS.(MT) VOLUNTEERS 12/10/1915-18/1/1916.
AGE 24 YEARS 9 MTHS 5FT.6 INS. 119 LBS. CHEST SIZE 33.25 INS.
OCCUPATION CHAUFFEUR BORN ILMINSTER,SOMERSET.
ATTESTATION DATE 25/10/1915 KINGSTON ON THAMES ADDRESS 23 FALLSBROOK RD. STREATHAM.
As for the reasons why Samuel enlisted into the WORCESTERS when he did, they could be many and varied even, before 1914.
As WW1 progressed I suspect choice of regiment or corps.was very much reduced, for new recruites.
My own Granfather ,an Englishman living in South Wales , with previous service in the 5th.Welsh Regiment, joined the KSLI in 1914.

corona.
