Name Hanks. Aubrey William
Service number 1679
Rank Pte.
Date of death 03/01/1916
C coy, 1/8th Batt, Worcestershire Regt
Hi all, if anyone has information about the above soldier, my Grandfather, I would be very very grateful as I seemed to have hit a brick wall. If you have a photo of C coy 1/8th Batt that would be a dream come true for me as I can't find any, anywhere.

HI Mick,
In army records your man is listed as AUBREY WILLIAM or WILLIAM HANKS.
His Service Papers from 1912 ,with the 8/WORCESTERS, have survived, although very damaged.
They can be found on the pay for site ANCESTRY and contain a lot of information even in their burnt state !
Well worth a look. His Medal Card is also there under WILLIAM HANKS.
Regards,
corona

Thanks Corona, I've got both service record and medal card. I have found photos of D coy 1/8th batt but my Grandfather was C coy while based in Maldon Essex prior to embarkation to France in 1914. None of my family have any photos of William survive and my father passed away in 1998. He was only 9 months old when his father was killed. So any other information or photos would be great.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi,
Aubrey was my great uncle. I know he Disembarked France with 1/8 Worc Regiment 01/04/1915 He was killed in a french trench east of Hebuterne in either trench 22 BOUILLON or 23 BOUGEAUD. These were shelled for over half an hour with 77 4.2 and 5.9 inch shells. one shell struck the central cross beam causing 7 killed and eight wounded.

Hi Dan,it would appear we are related cousin. I have the information about Aubrey's death; the page out of the war diary; tench map;his medals and death penny. a few years ago with my son I visited the site of his death and went to Theipval and found his name (very emotional). My father never knew his dad and would not talk about it. James Aubrey (my dad) died in 1998. So all the information I have on my Grandfather is very little. So any information or better still photos you have would be a great help. My contact no is 07891241855.
