My grandfather Private Francis Charles Goodenough, 46157, later Labour Corps 416199, was ' according to my deceased aunt, his daughter, 'in the army but not uniform'. Could it be that he was continuing his peacetime occupation of sexton/gravedigger? I have no other information other than he survived the war.

No Service/ Pension Papers appear to have survived WW2 damage. His Medal Card records the award of the British War and Victory Medals
He served overseas ,in a war zone,after 1915.The Index of Wills and Admin.lists his death as 9/4/1941 at 1 SUTTON RD. KIDDERMINSTER.which was the town Workhouse.
His home address was 13,WARLEY RD. LANGLEY, OLDBURY. As his estate amounted to £180.16s, left to his widow Ada ,I expect he was working for the local authority in
some capacity or other and was not as an inmate.

Dear Corona
Forgive me if this response doesn't exactly fit procedures but I am new to this mode of communication.
Your post is very useful as it matches facts I know including Ada, my grandmother, date of death. The workhouse is new but as he was working for Uplands Cemetery, Oldbury/Smethwick, until his death this should provide a useful research route but I must not be diverted from my war graves recovery research.
You response much appreciated.

I have been following thru on your leads and find:
1. my grandfather's time in Kidderminster hospital was about dying and not workhouse inmate;
2. he was Worc's and NAVAL DIVISION

which is more of a puzzle than before.
