Frank enlisted 3 May 1915 and discharged 12 June 1917. Transferred to Class P and awarded 8/3 pension for 26 weeks, to be reviewed.
No medals awarded (according to Medal Rolls Index) but received Silver Wound Badge (211162) SWB List L/783. Can anyone throw any light on what "Class P" is and why no medals?
Thanks.
David

David,
Frank has 2 entries on the medal cards. One just showing 40128 Worc Reg and another showing him as 397 South Staffs and 40128 Worc R.
He was awarded the British War Medal & The Victory Medal. They will be issued as 397 Pte F Lewis South Staffs Reg.
He Transfered to Worc R on 03-09-16, 6th Battalion
His service papers show Home 03-05-1915 to 03-09-16, Then France 04-09-16 until 08-12-16, the Home again 09-12-16 to 12-06-17
As for Class P, it says he was wounded - GSW(Gun Shot Wound) Chest, Thigh and Knee on 18-11-16, So i assume it means Pension..!
or no longer physically fit for war service.
Statement of case.
Date - 19th Nov 1916 Place - Grand Court, Somme.
"Was in a charge, ??? The ??? When he was hit by two Bullets in the chest. One in the front and one behind.
He go to a shell cavity for shelter, when he was again hit in the back by shrapnel.
He lay out all day and then managed to get back to the medical officers dug out.
He stayed there 3 days and was then moved down to Rouen and transfered to Glasgow"
Strangely the witness for him signing up was a Cpl J Jarratt..!
I hope this helps a bit, do you have access to ancestry? or would you like me to e-mail the stuff over.
Cheers
John
