I never even thought of the will so I will find out. As you say very sad, I suppose every soldier made one.

How can I find out exacty how Albert died - if it was a sniper or shell maybe. We will see the trench where he died and his grave when we go to Belgium.

Also, I hope to find out if there is a photo of him with his mates in thee regiment. Any ideas of how I can do that.

Thanks again.

Eileen.....contact museummercian@btconnect.com They can do a search of all their records and I think they charge £25, they would have access to the war diaries but probably now the cause of death would only be guesswork as unfortunately private soldiers didn't,t get much mention, however as it was a comparatively quiet time you never know. Make the most of your trip to Belgium, if you get chance get a copy of Rose Coombs' Before Endeavours Fade to read or Major Holts guide to the Ypres Salient, both good publications for planning a trip....Colin

Thanks to all of you for your help.

The publications will be interesting and I will get copies before I go to Belgium.
so, Albert Hyde died instantly which is comforting to know that he did not suffer.

The will is on its way to me online. That will be a sad time to read it but knowing that Albert wrote it is poignant. I have emailed the archives in Dudley and am awaiting their reply.

Do you think the regiment will want a photo of Albert?

Thank you Steve for sending the article about Albert. I have also ordered a copy from the County Express and now that I have the date of it should be easy.

I found out that Albert joined up in 1914 but was discharged 3 months later, then he applied again and was accepted again. I am wondering why he was discharged.

Also please would you let me know if this forum is just for Worcestershire Regiment enquiries as a friend wants to research his grandad in World War 2 but he does not know which regiment he was in and he didn't die in the war but he thinks he won the VC and has quite a few locations where he was in the war.

Can he post on this website for help do you think?

Thank you all again, we have learned so much useful information so that we can know more about our great uncle Albert.

According to his pension records he was discharged under Kings regs 392 (111) c. Which probably means he was at that point considered medically unfit......colin
