Pte Walter William Hardiman 3rd Batallion mystery..

My great great uncle Walter William Hardiman 7486 was said to have been killed on 12/3/1915 near Ypres, I belive at Spanbroek Mill. However there is a bit if a mystery as to how he died. I have seen part of a newspaper cutting that says he was caught by the Germans as he tried to escape. He is on the Menin Gate.
I also believe that my great grandfather George Henry Garbett 9655 was with him but I can't prove it, can anyone help?

Hi Allyson,
Both served with the 3rd Bn. Worcs. (but if together?). Your GG Grandfather enlisted 18.9.1914 and went to France 20.1.1915. He was discharged (due to wounds) 20.7.1916. He had also served with the Labour Corps (695680). Entitled to the 1915 Star and BW & V Medals. Also had Silver War Badge (wounded).
Your GG Uncle was presumed died (KiA) on or since 12.3.16. He went to France on 12.8.1914 (3rd Bn.) and was entitled to the 1914 Star and BW & V Medals.

Thanks to Steve Beard for sending me the aforementioned cutting...it states that "he was taken prisoner by the Germans, and escaped. They had robbed him of everything, and he had to borrow some clothes during his long journey to the coast. On March 12th he was reported missing, and since that nothing has been heard of him". Very sad not to know what happened to him but also what a wonderfully brave man.
