Hi all. I'm researching my great grandfather who fought in The Great War with Worcestershire Regiment. Under 'Battalion' on listing it says 'depot'. Does anyone know what this would mean? Thanks in anticipation

A depot located within the area of an army and designated by the army commander where supplies from the communications zone or from local sources are received, classified, stored, and distributed.

Hi Ukphil and thank you for your reply. Makes sense though I know he died at home as a consequence of war as we have death penny. I wonder if depot came under attack maybe? Do you know if it's possible to find out how a Private of Worcester Regiment died through its website or is it down the family history website route? Thanks again

What was your great grandfathers name and date of death? If he died at home its most likely he had been wounded and died as a result of his wounds.

Hi Peter. His name was Arthur Woodward. Date of death was 15 April 1915. I've found gravestone but wondered how I can find details of death?

Have a look in the local newspapers around that date. Even if there's no story, you might find a Death Notice in the oranges.

Have you tried to see if you can get his army service records from Find my past or ancestry? also if he died of his wounds the the CWGC site some time has information, or your local library may have a "Roll of honor " for local war memorials and some one may have done the research for you.

Do you have his Army service number, this will make it much easier to find.

Hello Chill, I know you,ve got the answers you were looking for from members of the GWF but out of interest I believe there could be a photograph of Arthur Woodwards funeral at Norton Barracks in the Berrows Illustrated journal dated 24th April 1915. The original documents could be accessed at The Hive in Worcester if you are local enough to make the trip ! Colin
