Private Thomas Reuben Mason 27526

Postby Mason » Wed Aug 30, 2017 4:50 pm

My Great Uncle, Thomas Reuben Mason was killed in the 3rd Battle of the Aisne at Concevreux,on 27th May 1918, along with many other men of the 3rd Worcesters.
I have done a lot of research in to what the battalion were up to at this period, but one thing I am struggling to find out was when he enlisted? As he was an older man, about 35 I think, I suspect that it was not long before he was killed!
I wondered if anyone could help me with this?
Many thanks

When he first entered the theatre of war in France he was serving with the 4th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. He a some point later was posted to the 3rd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment.
As he was awarded only two medals namely; British War Medal and the Allied Victory Medal this would imply he entered the theatre of war from 1916 onward.
The chances are that he may have been wounded whilst serving with the 4th Battalion and that after he recovered he was post back to France to the 3rd Battalion.
He was 31 when he was killed.
Hope this helps a little.

Thank you very much for the information Louis. I would be really interested to know how you found that he first served in the 4th battalion. That's a whole new avenue!
Maybe a trip to Kew would be useful?
