Just to let you know that this is now out - cheaper through Amazon. Johnston was 3 Worcestershire, went over in 1914, became brigade major, commanded 10th Cheshire Regt. and shortly after taking over a brigade became wounded. A great Worcestershire Regiment stalwart, and I thoroughly enjoyed editing the work. Proceeds to the Worcestershire Regt. Museum trust - so give it a go, or at least make your local library buy a copy!

The Great War Diaries of Brigadier Alexander Johnston, by edwin Astill, published Pen & Sword, ISBN 978-1-84415-581-1. Published price £19.99, just over £13 through Amazon.

Hello Edwin,
whilst at Norton Barracks the other day, I was shown a copy of your book and what a beauty. I spent an hour having a browse through and learnt a lot in that time. I shall be buying a copy (At Amazon) and get my local library to get a copy as well. I generally study facts and figures but your book allowed me to be a part of the 3rd Battalion. I now have a picture of events that were just dates before. I hope it is a success for you, for two reasons at least. One, it will make it easier for you to get other books published and two, it spreads the word of "Worcestershire Regiment".
Many thanks Mike

Thanks, Mike. I am working on Allen Whitty's diary (3rd Worcestershire) for the Regiment- another splendid man - where did the Regiment get them from? Whitty won an Olympic Gold for shooting in 1928, so I am going to see if Bisley's museum has anything on him.
