Peter,
Are you interested in 2nd Battalion men in general or only those with 14 stars?
As I have some details for pre/post WW1?

David

Hi, I am researching a member of the 2nd Bn - 11265 Cpl Arthur Walter Clarke, deployed to F&F 12.08.1914 with the 2nd Bn and was later KIA as a Sgt on the 15th July 1916 (Near High Wood, Somme?) As he was one of the original members of the BEF it is just possible that he may have been involved in the action at Gheluvelt, can anybody tell me if he is mentioned in the roll?

Many thanks,
Rick

I have two ancestors who served in the 2nd Bn in 1914 and 1915.

Pte 7273 John T Mills, killed at Festubert

Pte 7631 Alfred Day, died of wounds at 1st Ypres

I'd be interested in anything that you have on them, esp re Gheluvelt and in return I'll give you all the family information that I have on the two men.

Thank you.

Hi Rob,

Sorry for taking so long to reply to your posting regards 7273 John T. Mills and 7631 Alfred Day. I don't think I can give you much information on either of these two men other than what you most probably have (family details). With the service records for both men being destroyed in the bombing of 1940 I have little on their service details (other than MIC, CWGC and Soldiers died information). I do have reports in local newspaper of both men plus (very poor quality) photo's. John Mills died from his wounds at 3rd Field Ambulance (Ypres 8.11.14) and was most likely at Gheluvet. I can't say for sure about Alfred Day being at Gheluvelt (not enough information on him to confirm).

Hi,
I have just obtained a 14 star trio to 8174 Drummer Charles G Gray of the 2nd Bn, he entered France on the 12 Aug 1914 and later served as a L/Cpl with the 3rd Bn Worc. there is no indication of him (and several other members of the 2nd Bn on the 1914 star roll) claiming a clasp for his 1914 star. I notice he is not listed on the Gheluvelt Roll on the museum website so maybe he was somewhere else when the action took place? any information would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers,
Rick

Rick,
I can't offer any useful comments, hopefully others might be able to. But could you please explain your comments "Gheluvelt Roll on the museum website"? I don't think I've come across this?

Dmr. 8174 C. G. Gray was in hospital in Glasgow at the time of Gheluvelt.
