Peter.

This is great news, thank you. I'm sure they would have cost a lot more if the seller had this information!
Another one into the collection, (it's getting a bit out of hand now, according to the wife), but it is a privilege to own all of these medals to brave men.

Regards, Rich. Still looking for Chantler medals.

Yes I have similiar problem in that my wife says I have far too many books, which is true. Sorted street name on the posting (with edit).
If you ever shop at M&S Tamworth we may pass each other without knowing.

Peter,
Pte William (Thomas) BUTWELL, 10110.
Since our last communication on the above I have been trying to find his history. I have now located pretty much all in the way of data on usual sites except his 1901 Census. Do you have anything in your records please?
If not I will try the Birmingham History Form they have some good sleuths.
All the best,
David

David,
Like yourself I couldn't find 1901 census for Thomas.

Did you know his brother, William Arthur Butwell served with RWF (Pte. 8104)? He was KiA 16th May 1915 leaving a widow, Beatrice and 3 children. When Thomas's wife Gertrude died (June Q. 1922) Thomas re-married (his brothers widow) Beatrice Louisa (4th Aug. 1923).

Service papers for brother are available (make interesting reading). Hope a member of the Birmingham History Form will come up with something for you (and me) .

Of interest Beatrice Louisa Chinn, I wonder if she is related to Carl Chinn?

Peter,
Yes thank you. He seems to have been a regular defaulter. One wonders why he joined the Army? A drink problem. Could this point to why we can't find his 1901 Census?
I will try the BHF tonight.
Sorry I don't understand your reference to Carl Chinn?
All the best,
David

David,

Well done BHF members. That's the problem with transcriptions being incorrectly done from the original document.

Did you have anything from NA regards Pte. 7998 James J. Brown?

Peter,
I had forgotten about the NA request. I asked for a quote "for copying" and never got a reply. I am in France at the moment so when I get back I'll try again. Incidentally I have just received another batch of "Firms" from an Auction House and I should now have all for 1951/52/53 so again when I get back I'll have another look for Lt. Lilley.
All the best,

Hi Peter, it's been a while!
I have just got hold of QSA, KSA, 14 Trio & clasp to 5302 CQMS Albert Edwards, KIA 10/11/14. He is a confirmed charger but other than that I can find very little about him. I know he was a Corporal in SA but after that I'm struggling. Do you have any information on him?

Rich.

Hi Rich,

Nice set of medals you have got, was a memorial plaque with them? Pity if not.

Let me know what information you have I will see if I can add anything . I can tell you his two younger brothers also served with the Worcesters and both were KiA. A mother loosing her 3 sons on consecutive years (14, 15 and 16). William (10389) was a 14 Star man (9.5.1915 1st Bn. but went out with 3rd Bn. wounded and returned) married no children. Harry (160) was a 15 Star man (3.1.1916 1/8 Bn) married 3 children.

Hi Peter.

Unfortunately no plaque. I have medals to W and H Edwards, but not those numbers!
I have very little information on Albert. I can't even find his MIC and service papers, but have confirmed his clasp from the 14 star roll.
I am also watching a star to 8358 Cpl later Sgt G Sharp 2nd Btn. Was he a charger?

Rich,

I have Sharps Regimental number as 9358. Newspaper report in Worcester Herald 15th January 1915, wounded so I would say he was with 2nd Battalion at Gheluvelt, but charger?

Peter.

I have his star now. It is 9358, my typo! I have found a pension document online stating that he was in 'C' coy 2nd Btn. wounded and awarded a SWB and dead in 1918, but he is not on CWGC site?
It has a Chelsea Pensioner number and his address as 53 Pond Lane Wolverhampton. It is dated 23/2/1918.
