Rich,

Other details show still being paid pension 1922/23 (2 pension ledger cards on George, Fold3) , stamped dead is just that the pensioner has died it does not give date of death. He died in 1948.

Albert enlisted (joined from Militia) August/September 1898. Father Enoch died March Q, 1910 aged 55 and his mother Mary Ann Portman re-married in 1913 (William R. Rea). Mother died December Q. 1934 aged 76. Photo of Albert (pre war) not brilliant quality (from newspaper) head and shoulders wearing Q & K S A medals. Served 16 years with the colours.

Did you manage to get any information from Bromsgrove St John the Baptist Church WW1 Memorial? If you have then the Private Pratt mentioned who lives at Rock Hill is Pte. 8063 Alfred Pratt.

Peter,

I have gone through Firm up to January, 1955 found nothing at all about Lt C C Lilley.
Do you know the obituary was there, if so any idea when? I can go through the all of the 50's if it may have been recorded later.

Regards,

David
ps Do you have another email I can use?

David,

I don't know if a obituary was printed in Firm for Lilley.
If you have searched up to 1955 then I would think it most unlikely that one was printed. I have 25th January 1951 (aged 61) as the date of death (unless this is another Cyril Charles Lilley O.B.E.).
I have newspaper report (newspaper and date unknown) that states he was a pre war international rugby player (I have been unable to confirm this).

Peter,

Trust you are keeping well.

Can you please help me out on CPL Arthur CLARKE, 8284. No BHF sleuths to help me out!

He's on the roll but birth, 1891, 1901 census information eludes me.

Found some service information and his Pension cards. So know his mothers name and so found 1911 Census. But other than being born in 1885 nothing else found.

Do you know if he died from his wounds received on 21 July, 1916, shell round to right shoulder?

Regards,

David

David,

The 1891 and 1901 census details you need are available on Ancestry. for 1891 census type ancestry.co.uk/discoveryoi-content/veiw/20027988:6598 for 1901 census just change the numbers for 15182095:7814.
Birth March Q. 1885 Pershore.
He had a sister (Elizabeth) b. December Q. 1880 (both illegitimate?).
Mother married George Charles Morris September Q. 1895 (George had 2 previous marriages).
Arthur died as a result of shell wound right shoulder (infection/complications?). George died 1913.
A photograph of Corporal A. Clarke can be found in Berrow’s Worcester Journal Supplement, Saturday 19th August 1916, available at Worcestershire History Centre (sadly I don't have a copy).

David

David,

Burgess is a 15 Star man so don't have any information on him. Look up his BW & V Medal Roll that should tell you what battalions he served with.

1901 census used spelling variations and hit lucky.

Peter,

Yes I realised he was in 3rd but he was originally a 2nd Battalion man and I hoped he was still in the 2nd at commencement of the WW1. So hoping you might have some information on him.

All the best,

David

L/CPL Frederick DEAN, 10723 2 Battalion.
Peter, Anything on the above?
He went to France with 2 Battalion on 12 August, 1914, wounded 29 November, 1914 and I think he was posted to 3rd.
Do you know if he was at Gheluvelt.
Lots of records pertaining to wounds and POW.
All the best,
David

Peter,
Sorry poor housekeeping on my part. I did check but it was December 2021 and I didn't go back far enough.
I did do a check on the newspapers but didn't find anything. As I am doing a check for new records I will have another look.
Sorry to have wasted your time.
All the best,
David

Peter,
I have gone through the newspapers I have access to and I can not find any mention of him being previously missing. In the Birmingham Daily Post, Friday, 15 January, 1915 he is under the Second List, as wounded, reported from the Base under date 29 November, 1914. Is this the report you are referring to as they do mention soldiers "missing" above? Whereas Dean is mentioned in the Second List below.

David,

No problem not a waste of time, I'm always going back to check my information. I have the wounded report dated 29 Nov. reported from base (The Times) and a Previously reported missing and now reported wounded and not missing (Worceter Herald) also dated 29 Nov. but not (just) a missing report. Both newspaper reports January 1915.
The wounded report date would suggest he was possibly involved at Gheluvelt (may be even wounded that day) but I still have him listed as ? (not sure).

Peter
