Rich,
Most likely he was at Gheluvelt. I've not found any information to omit him but not knowing which Company he was serving with could not confirm him being in the charge ('A' Company not taking part).

Thanks again Peter.
As this was such an important achievement for the Regt., and as time goes on it is unlikely that any new information will come forward, isn't it feasible to add a 'likely to have been there' option on the list? (Just a thought. If you need any help I have plenty of time)!
Back to possibles, I now have a 14 trio to 7250 PTE Thomas Brueton 2/Worc. Went to France 26/8/14. Transferred to MGC number 17217, but not sure when. Was he a charger?

Rich.

Rich,

I have very little information on Brueton so after seeing your posting took another look at him. Do you have anything on him other than his medals? I may have more information but not sure its the right Brueton so if you have anything it could help.

MGC 1/1/1916

Rich,

Most likely he was with the Battalion at Gheluvelt on the 31.10.1914 but in the charge I could not say for certain. His service number would suggest he enlisted October 1902 (aged about 18). Born 1884 Wolverhampton. He would have been a reservist and recalled to the colours in August 14. Thomas would have been with one of the party of re inforcements sent to join the Battalion and would not have reached them until about mid September. He was a married man (possible marriage June Q. 1911 to Minnie Gaudern). No reports for (T. Brueton) wounded for 1914 found. Discharged 19.2.1919.

Peter,
Hope you are well during these difficult times.
L/Cpl George Thomas HOMER, 12031, enlisted Jan. 1910, went to France 12 Aug. 1914, with 2nd Battalion. He was wounded Sep/Oct 1915, and again Jul/Aug. 1916.
Do you think he could have been at Gheluvlet?
Regards,
David

Hi David,

Yes difficult times but ok and hope you are well and keeping safe.

I have not found any details/information that could exclude him but again without his service papers not 100% but I would say yes. Not knowing his Company can not say he was in the charge (if in 'A' Company then no).

Sorry about the late reply but when I read your posting I thought I would take another look at him and see if any new information was avialable but negative result.

His pension ledger details say he was a married man and born 1891 and also gave an address, 258 Percy Road, Greet, Nr. Birmingham. He married Elsie Gladys Wright Dec. Q. 1916 (when home recovering from wounds?). 1939 England and Wales Register Homer, George T. b. 9.4.1891 Hawker, Homer Elsie G. unpaid dom. duties b. 10.10.1896 35 Leominster Road.

Pension ledger shows disabilities GSW left hand, discharged 12.12.1918 (6th Bn.).

Your wounded dates for 1915 Sept./Oct. I have June/July (Reported in Worcester Herald 3rd July 1915 edition as wounded, 18th June 1915 edition in Military Hospital, Fort Pitt, Chatham).

Hope this is of some help.

Regards

Peter

Peter,

Thank you.
The 2 report dates for wounds came from Forces war records.
I didn't see the "GSW" on the ledger so that was new.
I'll try to track down the Worcester Herald for the details.
Again thank you for this information.
Keep safe.
All the best,

David

Hi Peter.

Thanks for the information re: Brueton.
I have just bought a Victory Medal to 11387 Pte F. Styles. Frederick Styles has 2 MIC's. He is 11387 F. STILES on the 1st, confirming 14 trio, clasp & roses and SWB entitlement. He went to France 12/08/14. On the 2nd he is 11387 Pte F. STYLES entitled to pair. I don't even know if he was 2nd Btn. but 11385 Pte William Weavings is a confirmed charger. What do you think?

Thanks again, Rich.

Thanks again Peter.

I now have a 14 Star with clasp and War medal to 10982 Charles David Robbins. Pte on star & Cpl on BWM. He is further entitled to Victory, Military Medal & MID. He is on the 2nd Btn roll for star, clasp/roses and emblem. Went to France 12/08/14. MID 17/02/15. MM 21/10/16.
Also on SWB as Sgt. Enlisted 20/01/08, discharged 20/04/18, wounds. He appears to still be with the 2nd Btn in 1917 but transferred to 3rd, 1st and 14th. Do you think he was there?

Peter.

No, I don't know where they are, but I am hoping it was a family split and they are still out there somewhere. Interesting chap. His Star is impressed WORC.R. and not 2/WORC. as you would expect.

Yes split between family members. He did have two sons, Charles Douglas J. Robbins b. 1917 and Patrick Joseph b. 1919 but both deceased now.

Can't find anything on him after 1925, no record of death nothing. Of interest it looks like he (and his wife) had a tea shop in Barnards Green, Malvern named Gheluvelt Tea Rooms (Electoral Register 1920).
