I am trying to find details of my father,
Pte Reginald Counsell. army number 44540.
Transferd from Somerset Light Infantry army number Pte-3-6489 maybe around November 1915. to Worcester Regiment. Pte-44540.was with Worcester,s at Plugsteer Wood and then to the Somme in 1915.
any one who can help a former Coldstreamer find this history will make me very happy.

Hello Reginald, you were named after your father I assume? Your Father was of course in the Worcestershire Regiment as 44540 but not in 1915. He may well have been on the Somme and "Plugstreet" Wood but it was with the Somerset Light Infantry. He came to the Worcesters with 50 other Somerset Light Infantry men in Spring 1918. Of the 50 men 2 died , 44549 and 44588 . Both men and the other 48 as well, were I think in the 9th Battalion. My field of Knowledge is not good on where Battalions were but I quickly looked up the 9th and they were in Macedonia and Russia in 1918. Does that ring any bells? Maybe someone else will come on in and tell us where they were exactly. The number he had in the Somerset's 3/6499 was not issued until after 1908 at the very earliest. I dont know how much research you have already done. There is lots of information you can get if you dig deep enough, have you looked at the subject "Grandfather" in the Forum? It gives you some pointers. Happy hunting Mike
