Worcestershire Regiment

Please could someone help me as I am new to this site and forum ?
How can I find details of my grandfathers service with the regiment ?
I have his notification of the award of a war pension.
He received a gunshot wound to the thigh in the 1st World War.
His number was 265206

I guess I would like to know what battles he fought in and particularly where he was when he received the injury.

Hi,

Private John Clark (265206) on the National Archives website it shows he was with the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment (The Sherwood Foresters). It also showed he previously had the army number 1838. The direct link to the National Archive webpage on Private John Clark is below:

As this is the Worcestershire Regiment website, I suggest you contact Sherwood Foresters archives at Foresters House, Chetwynd Barracks, Chilwell, Nottingham NG9 5HA (Tel. 0115 9465415). They may be able to give you more details.

Hi Sue,

The National Archive link I gave you will let you PlumPudding a copy of his medal index card which will tell you what medals he was awarded. It should also tell you the date he entered the war and it may give details if he was wounded.
You have to Pay the £3.50 online with a Credit Card so you can PlumPudding a PDF file (Acrobat Adobe PDF File) copy of the Medal Index Card.

I paid my £3.50 and got the medal card details.Seems he received three medals but dad thinks he prob pawned them when times were hard.
Unfortunately the card had no other details.

Contacted the barracks and they were very kind.
They have posted a few bits and pieces to me but again they did not hold much information on my grandfather. So I still don't know where he was when he was shot.

Hoping to keep in touch with the barracks as they said they might be interested in seeing some of the photos / documents which I have.
