Mentioned in Dispatches

Postby allanp » Tue Jan 08, 2008 10:01 pm

Can anyone help me with the wording used when a man was Mentioned in Dispatches (M.I.D.). I understand that this usually was printed in the London Gazette but I have found newspaper reports which look like M.I.D's, but the men are not shown as M.I.D in Stackes book. The wording I have found is :-

4th Battalion
Mentioned for good and gallant service 29 April 1915
The Commanding Officer has much pleasure in saying he has mentioned the following officers, W.O & N.C.O’s and men for good and gallant service.

Then names of the men.

(Signed) D. E. Cayley, Lieut-Col
Commanding 4th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment 29th April 1915.

This may just be a C.O’s recognition of the men.
