Worcestershire Regiment

Private Jones 2nd Battalion Worcesters from Tipton in Staffordshire died from his wounds on 17th November 1914 and is buried in Hamburg Cemetery, Germany.

When was he wounded and was he a prisoner of war when he died?

The only one that matches is L/Cpl. Albert Henry Jones (11345) served with the 2nd Battalion and died of wounds 17th November 1914. He fought at the battle of Gheluvelt on the 31st October 1914. He landed in France on the 14th August 1914.

I have a report on the 9 January 1915 of 11345 Lanc Cpl A Jones Wounded. No report of Died of Wounds.

11345 L/C Albert Henry Jones is correct. I wondered about him being a prisoner of war for the fact that he is buried in Hamburg, Germany. The time lapse for the report that L/C Jones was wounded seems longer than usual being about 2 months. Could it be the Germans informed the Red Cross that he was a wounded prisoner of war?

I do not have any indication that Albert was a P.O.W. he was reported Wounded along side 106 other men & 27 Missing on the 9th January. This is not to say that he wasn't picked up by the Germans and taken prisoner. As you can appreciate a lot of the information came from other Lads who may have seen him fall. I do have reports from the German's & the Red Cross listing P.O.W's including information regarding Lads that Died of Wounds whilst in captivity. These were not sent very quickly to Blighty so he may show up later. I will look out for him in 1916.
