service number error or not

I thought I'd found my grandfathers service records. All the details on them match right from his date of birth and fathers name down to his height at only 5ft 3in. He was in the 13th battalion service number 26316.
I have a Worcestershire old comrades association card which reads 13th battalion service number 23616. Could it still be the same person? I'm a bit confused. :?:
Thanks Tina

The medal index cards for the two numbers indicate different men. initials BA or WN. But if the names are the same on records and card it sounds like a typo.

Hello Tina,
Welcome to the Forum. I am sure Lars is right and the card belongs to your grandfather. To be sure however and to get it clear in my mind, please. Your grandfather was Bert Abrahams 26316 and this "Old comrades" card has the number 23616. Does the card also have a name on it?
Regards Mike

Hello Mike.
Yes the card does have his name on. It is a bit worn but this its whats on the card.
This is to certify that Bert Abrahams is a life member of the Worcs old comrades association. His number is then hand written. It states Rank Pte P. unit 13 BN Worcs. Dated 22/4/1948. There is a signature of EPG Wills or Witts, Hon Sec. There is a space for my grandads signature but it is not signed. Hope this helps.
Thankyou Tina.

Hi Tina,

The signiture on the Worcestershire Regiments' Association card will be that of Brigadier Charles Pearce Germon Wills who was he was Secretary for eighteen years of The Worcestershire Regiments' Association from June 1947 to 31st March 1966.

You will find details and photos of Brigadier Wills on this website. The direct link to the page is below:

Thanks for that Louis.
It's nice to put faces to names. I did think it said Wills but because the card is a bit worn out I wasn't sure.

Hi Tina,
Those details on the card confirms it. Lars (Who lives in Sweden) was right. The card was intended for your grandfather but his Regimental number was mistakenly put as 23616 , instead of 26316. I have made the same sort of mistake myself in the past. The number 23616 belongs to Pte. Walter New.
