Sjt 8293 Worthy G Johnson

Postby LarsA » Mon Feb 04, 2008 6:49 pm

Does anyone have any information on Sjt W G Johnson, 8293, who won the MM with the 3rd battalion, LG 27/7/1917? He also holds the 1914 trio, but nothing on the MIC regarding a clasp. Date of entry 19.9.1914, so he would have missed Mons and Le Cateau.

I see that two officers won MCs gazetted 26/7/1917, they were Hudson, A. J. B. Lieut. 26/07/1917 and Greenhill, C. 2/Lieut. 26/07/1917 Raid (2-3/6/1917), probably Ypres-related. Also a DCM Thompson S. 13422 Sergt. 26/07/1917 Raid 2-3/6/1917. Anything in Stacke on this, or just whereabouts on the 3rd battalion on this day and preceding month?

(EDITED: just found the page on the battle of Messines on this webpage which gives details of the raid above, but no mention of W G Johnsons MM, but the time frame seem to fit)

Many thanks!

Evening Lars,
I had a quick look at Worthy (What an unusual 1st name?). I dont have a lot on him but he did get a Silver War Badge. So he may have got wounded in winning his Military Medal. I will give him a longer look later.
