Elst Holland October 1944

Postby Baker502 » Fri Jun 15, 2012 2:58 pm

I know this might not be the right forum or website for the information I am looking for. I am researching a book on Company B /101st Airborne/ 502nd Regiment. On and around October 4-6 1944 the 1st battalion relieved the 129th Brigade in positions at Elst Holland. I am curious to know if there are any type of maps or overlays for this time period. I am trying to zero in on the location that the company took over. I am curious to know if there would be noted in the unit journals the specific companies and regiments. Any help or direction would be splendid.

Respectfully,

Hi Paul,

The official history of the 4th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment (part of 129th Brigade) shows that after nightfall on the 5th October 1944 the 4th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment was relieved by a parachute battalion of the 101st U.S. Airborne Division. They took over at the small town of Opheusden (about 10 miles west of Elst) of about 100 brick buildings.

Hope this helps a little,

Regards,
