Division Patch, Tobruk

In honor of my grandad, Pvt Joseph Marks, I am painting military figures as the 1st Battalion Worcester Regiment in the uniform he would have worn when he was captured at Tobruk.

One of the bits of information that I am having difficulty tracking is the Division patch that would have been worn on the shoulder (this could range from a simple red square to more intricate designs).

Does anyone have an idea what design it would have been? Were the Worcesters still part of the 29th Division and if so what would the design have been?

Thanks for looking :)

I think it was part of the 5th indian infantry division, 29th brigade.

As far as I have found the divisional patch was a red ball on a black background. Not sure if it shows on the link, but at least you have an indication what to look for.

best regards,
/Lars

If you cannot get the definite information that you require there is no better place to inquire at and that is the Regimental H.Q. at Norton Barracks you go through the channels from the opening page on this site give them all the details that you have and I am sure that they will help you but please remember they are volunteers which do this work and the archives have to be kept perfect so a small dontion for there help would be nice.

Thanks to you both for replying to my post.
I now find that there should be another symbol on the Worcesters' vehicles. Each battalion within a division was given a two digit number on a solid square background. Lars do you know what this might have been? If not I can always enquire of the Regimental HQ as suggested by Clive8.
Thanks both again. :D

Sorry Alan, I have no record of the tactical number of the vehicles - hope Regimental Archives can assist. I can be a bit more specific about the divisional patch though, it's a red ball in a black square, "the ball of fire". Found it in an old Osprey "Men at arms" series, 'British Battle Insignia (2), plate G.

Good luck!
