This is my first post on this site so please be gentle with me.
I admit to knowing nothing about military history and even less about the difference between battalions and regiments.
However, from his marriage certificate I do know that my Great grandfather, Ernest Crow was a Corporall in the 2nd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, living at Norton Barracks, 3rd October 1887.
By the 1891 census he was nolonger in the army but I can't find him on the 1901 census. Family folklore has it that he was away in the Boer War. This is partly based on the fact that he had 8 children by his wife Jane between 1887 and 1899 and then had 3 more starting 1902-1909. The gap in between was supposed to be caused by the war?
Anyway, I would be very grateful to hear of any information anyone has about Ernest Crow and also if someone could advise me if it was accepted practice to rejoin the army after a break?
Thanks for taking the trouble to read this
