I am looking for a lost relative, and I have found listed a Private 3532 M. Haley who died 5th January 1901. Last sighting was in 1880 living at 43 Great Wild Street, St. Giles in the Field, London. He was married with a family. Born 6th April 1843 at 13 Red Lion Court, Long Acre, London. I am wondering if he joined the army, as he is not living with his wife and family on the 1881 census. Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

Hi,
I would be very surprised if the MILES HALEY born 1843 is the M HALEY who died in S AFRICA, serving with the Worcestershire Regt. in 1901.That would make him 58!
There appears to be some confusion over the correct Army number for PTE. M HALEY IST. BATT. ROLL.
The various casualty lists, has him as 3532, but the medal roll for the QUEENS S. AFRICA MEDAL(CLASPS WITTEBERGEN,CAPE COLONY, S .ARICA 1901) has 3252.
In addition it records - Deceased 6th Batt. His death took place at BETHLEHEM on 5/1/1901 (Disease?)
